When does the transfer window close and why is it early this year?

There have been some big moves so far this summer (Picture: Metro/Getty Images)The Premier League is back this week and after a change to the schedule this season, that means the transfer window will be slamming shut.

Not wanting to be distracted by trying to complete transfers when the season starts, Premier League clubs voted to close the transfer window much earlier than in previous years.

EFL clubs followed suit, meaning that no English clubs will be able to bring in players after this week.

But when exactly is the transfer window closing?

This is over 24 hours before the Premier League season starts on Friday, 10 August when Manchester United host Leicester City at Old Trafford, kicking-off at 8pm.

The Championship, League One and League Two have all begun already, but their windows will also close at 5pm on Thursday.

The five votes against came from Manchester City, Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Watford and Swansea.

When the EFL clubs came to vote on doing the same thing, 40 voted in favour and 29 against.
