Ousmane Dembele tells Barcelona he wants January transfer as Arsenal and Liverpool plot moves

Ousmane Dembele is keen to leave Barcelona this winter (Picture: Getty)Barcelona misfit Ousmane Dembele has reportedly told the club that he wants to leave in January amid strong interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.

Dembele’s behavioral problems have become a major issue at Barcelona and the Catalan giants are preparing to cash in this winter after running out of patience with the 21-year-old forward.

The France international, who was part of Didier Deschamps’ triumphant squad in the summer, regularly turns up late for training and Barca fear he has developed a gaming addiction.

Arsenal were heavily linked with Dembele ahead of the 2018/19 and have once again asked about the attacker’s potential availability. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has also sanctioned an £85million bid for the Frenchman in the January transfer window.

According to Goal, Dembele has now informed Barca officials that he’s intent on leaving this winter and the La Liga outfit are open to selling the former Borussia Dortmund man to fund an audacious move for Neymar.

Barca sold Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee of €222m in August 2017 but are seriously exploring the possibility of a return for the Brazilian superstar.

‘I think being a footballer is a privilege,’ the Uruguayan said last week.

‘I think he should focus on football, and take inspiration from the exemplary professionals in the Barcelona dressing room.’

Barcelona are ready to cash in on Dembele (Picture: Getty)Dembele’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, laughed off rumours that the Frenchman had been dropped for Barcelona’s clash with Real Betis for breaching team rules.

‘All these criticisms make me laugh. It had already begun with a so-called delay at the meeting before the Champions League match against Inter,’ he told RMC Sport.

‘I am surprised very serious newspapers can report this information because Ousmane didn’t arrive late. His coach has confirmed the fact he was not in the starting XI was not due to a delay.’

Dembele has struggled for minutes under Ernesto Valverde (Picture: Getty)Sissoko insisted that Dembele really was ill and rubbished speculation that the youngster could be set for a January move.

‘It is true that Ousmane was sick [before Betis],’ Sissoko added.

‘He had not slept all night, he was very tired. He missed the morning training and what the club has blamed us for is that he did not provide notification so a doctor can come to assess him.

‘He did that late. But he was sick, the club confirmed he had a (gastrointestinal illness), he missed training because of that. I’m surprised we can make controversy when he is sick.

‘Ousmane continues to work. He is in a big club, he is in the national team and Didier Deschamps continues to call him. He is very much demanding of the players’ behavior and their performances, so if Ousmane is today in the French team, he deserves it.

‘I also had Eric Abidal [Barcelona sporting director] on the phone and he is very happy with Ousmane, he told me he was training very well. He does not question him at all right now.’

Liverpool agreed secret deal with Barcelona over future transfers during Coutinho talks

The two clubs agreed a pact last January when Coutinho moved to Camp Nou (Picture: Getty)Liverpool fans need not fear losing any more of their star players to Barcelona in the near future after the two clubs agreed a secret deal over future business, according to reports.

After a long and protracted transfer saga, Philippe Coutinho left Anfield for Camp Nou last January despite Liverpool having been initially adamant that he was not for sale at any price.

Now Spanish radio station Cadena Ser report that Liverpool were so annoyed with the nature of his departure, they inserted a clause in the deal to prevent it from happening again.

Coutinho became Barca’s record signing last January (Picture: Getty)As part of the £142million transfer, Barcelona agreed they would not attempt to sign a Liverpool player for three seasons – or six transfer windows.

That is not to say that Liverpool have completely ruled out doing any business with Barca in the next few years, but they will have to be in favour of any deal.

They certainly were not in favour of allowing Coutinho to leave this time last year, and are still to sign a replacement for the Brazilian playmaker after a deal for Nabil Fekir fell through.

According to the agreement Barca and Liverpool have in place, the Catalan side will be unable to raid Liverpool again until 2021.

The Merseysiders have also been linked with signing a Barca star themselves, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly keen on bringing Ousmane Dembele to Anfield.

Luis Suarez sends message to Ousmane Dembele as Barcelona consider selling forward

Barcelona are ready to cash in on Ousmane Dembele (Picture: Getty)Luis Suarez has urged Ousmane Dembele to knuckle down and take inspiration from his ‘exemplary’ team-mates at Barcelona.

Reports in Spain suggest the Catalan giants are considering selling Dembele due to the 21-year-old’s attitude problems and inability to turn up on time for training.

Diario AS even claim that Barca are concerned the youngster has developed a gaming addiction and the club do not believe that he has been struggling with an illness.

Ernesto Valverde has dropped Dembele from Barca’s matchday squad on several occasions as a result of disciplinary problems and an asking price of €100million (£88.7m) has been set for the Frenchman.

Asked about Dembele, Suarez replied: ‘I think being a footballer is a privilege.

‘I think he should focus on football, and take inspiration from the exemplary professionals in the Barcelona dressing room.’

Barcelona to demand £88m from Liverpool to sign Ousmane Dembele

Barcelona are considering selling Ousmane Dembele (Getty Images)Barcelona will demand €100 million (£88.7m) from Liverpool for Ousmane Dembele, according to reports in Spain.

The 21-year-old’s long-term future at Camp Nou is in major doubt as Barcelona are weighing up the prospect of selling the winger next summer.

During his time at the club, Dembele has regularly turned up late for training and has been dropped from the matchday squad on several occasions by Ernesto Valverde.

According to Sport, Barcelona have issued Dembele with an ultimatum by telling him to improve his attitude, but the club’s hierarchy are not convinced that the winger will change.

And should Dembele fail to improve, Barcelona are open to selling him at the end of the season but will demand a €100m (£88.7m) transfer fee.

The Spanish champions spent an initial £96.8m on signing Dembele from Borussia Dortmund, although that figure could potential rise to £135.5m after bonuses.

Liverpool and Arsenal have both been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder, with reports claiming last week that Jurgen Klopp is ready to make a move in the January transfer window.

Barcelona chief bursts Liverpool and Arsenal’s hopes of signing Ousmane Dembele

The French winger looks set to remain at Camp Nou (Picture: Getty)Barcelona chief Pep Segura has ruled out the possibility of selling Ousmane Dembele after meeting with the winger’s representatives, scuppering Liverpool and Arsenal’s hopes of signing him.

The Frenchman has struggled to adapt to Barca boss Ernesto Valverde’s style, and has made the starting XI in just one of the club’s last five La Liga matches, leading to suggestions that he might leave Camp Nou.

Dembele would command a fee in excess of £85million, but general sporting manager Segura is confident he will adapt to Barca’s style eventually and become a key player.

Dembele has been heavily linked with a Premier League move (Picture: Getty)‘There is no problem with Dembele,’ Segura said in an interview on SER radio.

‘Yes, we had a meeting, just like yesterday I met with three other representatives, but it’s normal, it’s part of my job, they’re natural things.

‘Dembele is very young and has never had to make an effort like the one he is doing now to adapt to Barca’s game.

‘We recognise that it is hard for him and he also recognises it, but we’re working to change this situation as quickly as possible.’

Despite his club struggles, Dembele remains in the France squad (Picture: Getty)Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo report that Barca’s hierarchy, including both Segura and president Josep Maria Bartomeu, met with Dembele’s agents and categorically ruled out selling him.

Instead, they are working on ways to help him settle into life in Spain more easily and adapt to the demands of playing for Barcelona.

Jurgen Klopp ready to smash Liverpool’s transfer record with £85m bid for Ousmane Dembele

Ousmane Dembele is firmly on Jurgen Klopp’s radar (Picture: Getty)Jurgen Klopp is reportedly pushing Liverpool to launch an £85million offer for Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele.

Dembele, 21, has had a frustrating time since arriving at the Nou Camp in August 2017 and disciplinary problems are believed to be hampering the youngster’s development.

Didier Deschamps revealed earlier this week that Dembele consistently turns up late for France training but Klopp is ready to take a punt on the temperamental World Cup winner.

According to The Sun, Klopp is looking to bolster his attacking options this winter and believes the addition of Dembele can significantly boost Liverpool’s title chances.

Klopp would have to smash Liverpool’s transfer record once again after spending £75m on Virgil van Dijk last January.

Barca splashed out £135.5m on Dembele ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, though, and will be reluctant to make a massive loss on the Frenchman.

Didier Deschamps on Ousmane Dembele earlier this week

‘Ousmane has been with us for a while. That’s his usual trick to be late, but in his defence, I’m sure he’ll say: “I’m not the only one.”

‘Whether at a big club like Barcelona, in the French national team or elsewhere, he has to pay attention to that.

‘It’s part of the life and requirements of a professional footballer.

‘He must improve to prevent it from becoming negative. These are situations that can be repeated. The sooner he understands that, the better for everyone.’

Philippe Coutinho tells Barcelona to sign Liverpool frontman Roberto Firmino as Luis Suarez replacement

Barca bosses believe the Brazilian can take their attack to a new level (Picture: Getty)Barcelona are actively looking to sign a replacement for Luis Suarez and have identified Liverpool frontman Roberto Firmino as the perfect fit, according to reports in Spain.

The Uruguayan’s goal tally has fallen in each of the last two seasons, while he only has three goals in 11 appearances in all competitions this campaign.

Suarez will turn 32 in January and El Chiringuito de Jugones report that Barca have made finding an heir their top priority, with Firmino number one on their list.

Barca fear Suarez is on a downward curve and want to replace him (Picture: Getty)There are concerns over Suarez’s physical ability as he enters the twilight of his career, but Firmino’s aggressive pressing and work rate is seen as a big step up.

The Brazilian would be an ideal foil for Lionel Messi, while he has already been given a glowing recommendation from former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

More: Football

Barca’s hierarchy intend to use the same approach that convinced Coutinho to leave Anfield on Firmino and have already begun putting steps in place to sign him.

However, unlike the Coutinho deal, Barca do not believe they are in  a position to sign Firmino in January and will instead wait until next summer to mount their pursuit.

Coutinho has been key to Barca’s interest, recommending Firmino to the club (Picture: Getty)Firmino enjoyed the most prolific season of his career to date last year, scoring 27 times in all competitions – though that is actually less than what Suarez scored.

But Barca are attracted more to his ‘fighting’ qualities than his goalscoring record, and believe his style of play – more like a false nine – would take the side’s attacking play to a new level.

Reports on Wednesday from Spanish outlet AS claimed the former Roma winger’s representatives had held several talks with key Barcelona figures and offered the Spanish champions the chance to sign Salah this summer.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are in the market for a new attacker and Salah would be viewed as an alternative signing to Antoine Griezmann.
