Fabinho speaks out on Liverpool exit rumours after Paris Saint-Germain transfer link

Fabinho wants to remain at Liverpool (TF-Images/Getty Images)Fabinho insists he has no plans to leave Liverpool after being linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazil international has a slow start at Anfield after he was signed in a £43.7 million deal from Monaco in the summer.

The 25-year-old has only started five games in all competitions this season and reports have claimed that PSG are looking to sign him in the January transfer window.

But Fabinho insists he has ‘no reason to leave’ Liverpool.

‘He [Jurgen Klopp] did not give a lot of explanations, but in training I talked so I would not be discouraged and concentrate on work, without lowering my head, [I knew] the opportunities could come in,’ Fabinho told UOL.

‘Since football is very intense here, I have to be very well prepared when the opportunity arises.

Jurgen Klopp claims Fabinho is close to making his full debut for Liverpool

Fabinho is close to making his full debut for Liverpool, claims Jurgen Klopp (AMA/Getty Images)Jurgen Klopp believes Fabinho is ‘close’ to making his full debut for Liverpool ahead of their clash with Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The Brazilian was signed in a £43.7 million deal from Monaco in the summer but has only played 101 minutes across three substitute appearances for Liverpool.

Asked how close Fabinho is to starting his first Premier League game, Klopp replied: ‘Close.

‘I didn’t see him for 10 days so it’s not the best thing to judge exactly how he is.

‘But very close, he was never far away, that’s how it is.

Fabinho has played only 101 minutes for Liverpool this season (Getty Images)‘He needs to get used to different things, that’s how it is for all the players.

‘I had this situation so often, I don’t like to tell too many old stories but Ilkay Gundogan didn’t play for half a year [when he first signed for Borussia Dortmund].

‘The only difference was he was a young player [signed] from Nurnberg and nobody asked about him.

‘He asked, he was not in the squad, there were a lot of difficult moments.

‘You need to be ready, that’s how it is.

‘At one point I have to make a decision if somebody is ready or not.

Fabinho trained ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Huddersfield (Getty Images)‘We’ve already made the decision if he is the right player for us but now we have to come together.

‘There’s no problem on that side, but I can imagine in that world when everyone asks the you constantly ‘oh, you don’t play’, so the player is not really comfortable.

‘For me I don’t care too much, but I have to explain it.

‘There’s only reason – because other players fit better in the moment. One reason, no other.

‘I really think a lot about who plays in which position.

‘It’s about the new player to close that gap, it always took time and always will.

‘And when he closes the gap… he’ll go and make us better.’

Neymar congratulated Roberto Firmino for scoring Liverpool’s winning goal to beat Paris Saint-Germain

Roberto Firmino met up with Neymar after Liverpool beat PSG (ESPN Brazil)Neymar personally congratulated Roberto Firmino after he scored Liverpool’s last-gasp winner against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

PSG had battled back from two goals down at Anfield and appeared on course to secure a draw in their opening game in Group C.

But Firmino, who came on as a second-half substitute after recovering from his eye injury, scored a superb winner in injury time to seal three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

After the match Firmino was speaking to reporters when Neymar walked past his Brazil teammate.

And Neymar had some kind words for the Liverpool forward after his winning goal.

More: Football

‘Congratulations, you played great,’ Neymar told Firmino. ‘We’ll talk later.’

Daniel Sturridge replaced Firmino in Liverpool’s starting XI and the 29-year-old scored Liverpool’s opening goal in the first half.

‘When you have Bobby Firmino available, you actually always think ‘come on, bring him’,’ said Klopp.

‘But it was nice to see how Daniel performed tonight and he paid 100 per cent back.

‘That’s so cool for him, for us, such a big, important sign. And how I said, bringing Bobby in after 70 minutes is a nice tool, to be honest, I really like that. So it was good.’

Fabinho reveals why Jurgen Klopp has delayed his Liverpool debut

Fabinho is yet to make his Liverpool debut. (AMA/Getty Images)Fabinho admits Jurgen Klopp is being cautious about handing him his debut for Liverpool but the Brazilian is confident he will get his chance to impress this season.

The 24-year-old was signed from Monaco for £39 million this summer but has yet to make his first official appearance for Liverpool.

Fabinho was named on the bench for Liverpool’s first game against West Ham but he has failed to make their last three matchday squads.

‘He is being cautious, he has already spoken about it a few times,’ Fabinho said in an interview with Globo Esporte.

‘I always want to play, but I am calm and patient because the season is long.

‘I will work hard and I will be prepared when I get my chance.’

Fabinho missed out on a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad but has been recalled to the national team and is set to start against USA at right-back – the role he initially played at Monaco before he switched to central midfield.

‘Having played more like a midfielder in the last two years at Monaco might have pushed me a little further away from the possibility of competing in the World Cup,’ he said.

‘But there are other factors as well.

‘The squad was playing very well, made a final stretch of excellent qualifying, the group was very good, the coach did not change many players, had his men reliable and was working.

‘It was difficult to get into that squad, but maybe the change helped too.’

Gabriel Jesus reacts to being snubbed by Brazil in favour of Roberto Firmino

The Manchester City striker has not made Tite’s latest squad (Picture: Getty)Gabriel Jesus says he will work hard to win back his place in the Brazil squad after being axed by Tite, though says Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino deserves his chance to impress.

Manchester City frontman Jesus started all five of the Selecao’s matches at the World Cup without getting on the score sheet and was criticised for his performances up front.

That saw Jesus – as well as three more of his City teammates – left out of Brazil’s 24-man squad for upcoming friendlies against United States and El Salvador, but he accepts the decision.

Brazil’s latest 24-man squad

Goalkeepers: Alisson (Liverpool), Neto (Valencia), Hugo (Flamengo) Defenders: Alex Sandro (Juventus), Dede (Cruzeiro), Fabinho (Liverpool), Fagner (Corinthians), Felipe (Porto), Filipe Luis (Atletico Madrid), Marquinhos, Thiago Silva (Paris Saint-Germain) Midfielders: Andreas Pereira (Manchester United), Fred (Manchester United), Arthur (Barcelona), Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona), Casemiro (Real Madrid), Lucas Paqueta (Flamengo), Renato Augusto (Beijing Guoan) Forwards: Douglas Costa (Juventus), Everton (Gremio), Roberto Firmino (Liverpool), Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain), Pedro (Fluminense), Willian (Chelsea)

‘They called me minutes before the announcement. I was happy with the call, but obviously I was not happy to be left out,’ Jesus told ESPN Brasil.

‘I always want to play for City and for my country. It does not mean, however, that I am angry with someone at the football federation.

‘I will keep working but I accept that other players deserve a chance, like [Roberto] Firmino, who has been playing really well since last season.’

Jesus was on the score sheet for champions City in their thumping 6-1 victory over Huddersfield on Sunday, while Sergio Aguero grabbed a hat-trick, and the Brazilian admits he needs to keep improving to match the Argentine.

Jesus scored City’s second goal against Huddersfield (Picture: Getty)He continued: ‘On top of being a great player, he is very experienced. He knows he needs to score, but he also pays attention to his teammate that is next to him.

‘If there is a space, he shoots, but he passes as well. This puts pressure on you. This season I will play more focused on the goal.’

Alisson is attracting a lot of attention (Picture: Getty)Brazil legend Pele has sent a message of congratulations to Alisson after the goalkeeper completed his move to Liverpool.

Alisson joined the Reds in a £66.8million deal on Thursday after deciding to snub advances from Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The transfer is a world record fee paid for a stopper and Liverpool fans will be praying the Brazilian solves their persistent goalkeeping issues.

And three-time World Cup winner Pele is also hoping Alisson can thrive at Anfield, as the 77–year-old sent a message to his compatriot on Twitter.

He said: ‘Alisson, it’s great to see your success. I hope you shine next to (Bobby) Firmino in Liverpool. I’m rooting for you.’

Pele will know Alisson well as the 25-year-old is Brazil’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Alisson’s arrival seems to spell the end for Loris Karius’ long-term future at the club, unless the German is happy playing second fiddle.

Alisson speaks out after Liverpool agree £67m deal with Roma

Alisson arrives at Ciampino Airport to catch a flight to England. (ForzaRoma)Roma goalkeeper Alisson is due to arrive in England on Wednesday evening to complete his £67 million move to Liverpool.

After submitting a £62m offer on Tuesday, Jurgen Klopp’s side have moved quickly to agree a world-record £67m package with Roma for the Brazil international.

Alisson had been on holiday in Sardinia after Brazil’s World Cup campaign but he has now cut that short to finalise his switch to Anfield.

On Wednesday evening, Alisson boarded a flight from Ciampino Airport to Manchester and will travel from there via a private car to Liverpool.

‘I want say thanks to Roma fans,’ Alisson told ForzaRoma at Ciampino Airport.

‘Now it’s time for a new adventure.’

Alisson decides between Liverpool and Chelsea after £62m bid

Alisson is keen on a move to Liverpool. (TASS via Getty Images)Roma goalkeeper Alisson has picked Liverpool as his preferred destination ahead of Chelsea, according to reports.

Liverpool have submitted a £62 million offer to Roma for the Brazil international as the club step up their search for a new first-choice goalkeeper ahead of the new season.

The £62m bid is slightly short of Roma’s £66.6m valuation but both sides are hopeful that an agreement can be reached.

Chelsea are also targeting Alisson as a potential replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who is wanted by Real Madrid.

But according to The Times, the 25-year-old has given an indication that he would prefer to join Liverpool instead of Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he is ready to stick with Loris Karius ahead of the new campaign.

But the 25-year-old showed more signs of being error-prone during the warm-up to a pre-season friendly against Chester earlier this month when he let a soft strike through his hands.

Karius also made a mistake in a following pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers as he spilled a free-kick which directly led to a goal.

The German was at fault for two goals as Klopp’s side were beaten 3-1 in Kiev.

Simon Mignolet, meanwhile, is expected to leave Anfield this summer after he lost his place to Karius last season.

The Roma shot-stopper does not want any distractions in Russia (Picture: Getty)Brazil and Roma goalkeeper Alisson hopes to have his future sorted before the start of the World Cup amid increasing links with Liverpool and Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old, who is ahead of Manchester City star Ederson in the Brazilian pecking order, has been identified as Liverpool’s first choice to replace the beleaguered Loris Karius after his Champions League final errors.

However, Roma will demand his release clause of £79million – which is proving a sticking point – while Real have also shown an interest as they look to finally replace Keylor Navas.

Alisson will start ahead of Ederson for Brazil at the World Cup (Picture: Getty)And Alisson has spoken about the rumours for the first time and has revealed that an announcement could be made before Brazil kick off their campaign on Sunday June 17.

He told UOL Esporte: ‘I think everything will be resolved before the start of the World Cup, that’s what I want.

More: Football

‘The truth is that I left everything in the hands of my agent. If everything is not resolved, it will be discussed after the World Cup.

‘Right now, I’m focused only on the World Cup.

Real Madrid have also shown interest in signing Alisson this summer (Picture: Getty)‘There are some possibilities and we are working on all of them, together with Roma, always respecting the club. We’ll see if anything happens this week.’

Only Napoli keeper Pepe Reina kept more clean sheets than Alisson (17) in Serie A last season, and he has earned the No.1 jersey for Brazil at this summer’s World Cup.
